Director, Growth and Innovation, DG JRC (Seville), European Commission

Mikel Landabaso Alvarez has worked at the European Commission since 1990 and is currently Director of Growth and Innovation at the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission at Seville. Previously he was Director for Strategy and Corporate Communication in DG COMM.  His professional life before this had been largely focused on regional policy. He has held a number of positions within DG REGIO including Acting Director for Northern Europe and Urban Policy, Head of Cabinet for the Regional Policy Commissioner, Head of Unit for the Competence Centre on Smart and Sustainable Growth and Assistant to the Director General. Mikel Landabaso Alvarez was previously Head of the Research Department and Assistant to the Director General of the Basque Regional Development Agency. Mr Landabaso has spent significant time lecturing at third-level institutions, including, though not limited to the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), the University of North Carolina (USA), the Public University of the Basque Country (Spain) and Deusto University (Spain). Mikel Landabaso Alvarez has a PhD in Economics, an MA in Development Economics, a Diploma in Advanced European Studies and a BA in Economics.
